• [June 2006] A Workshop on Algorithms and Mathematical Methods in Networking was held on June 30, 2006, at IEM, ESSEN.
• [April 2006] Our member Han Vinck received the IEEE ISPLC2006 Achievement Award in Orlando (FL, USA, 28.03.2006): For the fundamental role in creating what is today the most important technical conference in the field of power-line communications and for facilitating the transition of ISPLC to a fully financially and technically sponsored IEEE Communications Society conference

• [May 2005] The WIC 26th Symposium on Information Theory in the Benelux was held in Brussels, Belgium, on May 19 and 20, 2005.
• [March 2005] On the occasion of the retirement of Prof. Eric Backer from TU-Delft, the ICT Group organized a symposium on APRIL 18, 2005, entitled The Art and Science of Pattern Recognition.
• [January 2005] The annual WIC midwinter meeting took place on Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven. The theme of the meeting wasWireless Communications.

2004

• [June 2004] The WIC 25th Symposium on Information Theory in the Benelux took place in Abdij Rolduc, Kerkrade, The Netherlands, on June 2, 3, and 4, 2004.
• [December 2004] Our members prof.dr.ir. Han Vinck and dr.ir. Frans Willems have been elected Fellow of the IEEE.
• [October 2004] Our member prof.dr.ir. Kees Schouhamer Immink has been awarded the SMPTE Progress Medal for the central role he has played in research and development of audio and video recording products.
• [January 2004] On Monday, January 19, 2004, the WIC organized its annual midwintermeeting in the "Blauwe Zaal" of the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven. The topic was be Biometrics.

2003

• [September 2003] Our prominent member Prof.emer.dr. F.L.H.M. (Louis) Stumpers, dr. h.c. passed away on September 27, at age 92. A.o., he was chairman of the IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT) held in Brussels in 1962, as well as the IEEE ISIT in Noordwijk in 1970.
• [March 2003] The WIC organized the 24th Symposium on Information Theory in the Benelux on Thursday & Friday May 22-23, 2003, at the conference center "De Koningshof" in Veldhoven.
• [January 2003] The WIC organized the Midwinter Meeting on Can we trust networks? Trends in Network Infrastructure and Applications Security on Monday January 20, 2003, in the "Blauwe Zaal" of Eindhoven University of Technology.

2002

• [November 2002] We deeply regret having to inform you that our member dr.ir. Cees Kamminga passed aways on November 1, 2002.
• [August 2002] The IEEE German Chapter on Information Theory and the Digital Communications Group of the Institute for Experimental Mathematics (Essen University) organized a "Mini Workshop on TOPICS IN INFORMATION THEORY".
• [June 2002] The German Chapter on Information Theory organized the "Second European Asian Workshop on Concepts in Information Theory".
• [May 2002] The Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium organised the 23rd Symposium on Information Theory in the Benelux. The symposium took place in Louvain-la-Neuve, May 29 - 31, 2002. Invited lectures were given by Robert Calderbank, Philippe Delsarte, Pierre Moulin, Neil Sloane and Madhu Sudan.
• [March 2002] Since January 1, 2002, Dr. Hans van Tilburg is the IEEE Section chair for the Central Coast. 

2001

• [December 2001] The 2001 International Symposium on Information Theory was held in Washington DC. Some photographs taken at the symposium can be found here.

• [November 2001] The WIC sponsored the Midwinter Meeting on Multimedia Retrieval on January 8, 2001, organized by dr. Alan Hanjalic.
• [October 2001] 50 Years of Information Theory in The Netherlands. Delft University organises the Symposium "Mind Information" on November 12.
• [October 2001] The IEEE German Chapter on Information Theory organized a workshop on Convolutional codes at the Institute for Experimental Mathematics, October 3-5, 2001.
• [September 2001] On September 18 2001, The K.U. Leuven, Belgium, awarded the degree of Doctor in Applied Sciences posthumously to ir. Johan Borst.

• [January 2001] On Friday January 12, the WIC and the IEEE Benelux Chapter on Signal Processing jointly organize a midwintermeeting at the Eindhoven University of Technology. The title of the midwintermeeting is "Content Protection and Watermarking".

2000

• [October 2000] We deeply regret having to inform you that our member Johan Borst deceased on October 19, 2000.
• [December 2000] The 6th Winterschool on Coding and Information theory was held in the Reisensburg Castle (Germany) on December 17-20, 2000.
• [October 2000] Tijdens de Algemene Ledenvergadering van het NERG is besloten om prof.dr.ir. K.A. Schouhamer Immink tot erelid van het NERG te benoemen. Meer dan 30 jaar was dhr. Shouhamer Immink verbonden aan het NatLab van Philips. Zijn contributies aan codeersystemen zijn fundamenteel voor de Compact Disc, CD-ROM, CD-I, Minidisc, CD-Video, DVD, DCC en magnetische en optische videorecorders. Hij heeft ca. 40 patenten op zijn naam staan.
• [July 2000] Prof.dr.ir. Piet Schalkwijk is tijdens de laatste algemene ledenvergadering van de WIC benoemd tot erelid.
• [May 2000] Prof.dr.ir. Kees Schouhamer Immink received a knighthood in the order of "Oranje Nassau". Congratulations!
• [February 2000] Prof.dr.ir. Henk van Tilborg has been elected an to the IEEE Fellow grade in recognition of his significant contributions to Coding Theory.
• [February 2000] Prof.dr.ir. Han Vinck has been re-elected for a three year period in the Board of Governors of the IEEE Information Theory Society. The WIC currently has two representatives in the IT. Soc. Board because dr.ir. Frans Willems is also a member.
• [May 2000] The 21st Symposium on INFORMATION THEORY in the BENELUX was held on thursday, May 25, and friday, May 26, 2000.
•  [January 2000] The WIC Midwintermeeting of the year 2000 was held on Thuesday, January 18, 2000, at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE). The title and topic of the meeting is "High-Quality Audio".  

1999

• [May 1999] The "Werkgemeenschap voor Informatie- en Communicatietheorie in de Benelux" organized the 20th Symposium on INFORMATION THEORY in the BENELUX on Thursday, May 27, and Friday, May 28, 1999 in Haasrode, Belgium.
• [January 1999]  WIC midwintermeetings have a tutorial nature; the 1999 winter meeting deals with "OBJECT-ORIENTED AUDIO-VISUAL COMMUNICATION".
• [January 1999] Prof.dr.ir. K.A. Schouhamer Immink is the recipient of the 1999 IEEE Edison Medal for "a career of creative contributions to the technologies of digital video, audio and data recording."

1997

• [oct 10 1997] On behalf of the members of the IEEE Information Theory Society the Board of Governors expresses its deep sorrow and profound sense of loss at the passing of Dr. Aaron D. Wyner, one of the Society's most accomplished and valued members. In addition to his many fundamental scientific contributions that have enriched the field of Information Theory, Aaron gave generously of himself to the affairs of the Society, serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Information Theory Transactions, Society President, and member of the Board of Governors for many years.
