Pim Tuyls was born in Lubbeek, Belgium. He studied theoretical physics at the Catholic University of Leuven, where he got his masters degree in 1992. In 1993, he joined the Mathematical Physics group in Leuven. He received his Ph.D. in 1997 on “Quantum Dynamical Systems”, a subject closely related to Quantum Information Theory. In 1999, he joined Philips Research Labs, where he is running the applied crypto cluster since mid 2001.  Currently, his main research topics are in Secure Multiparty Computation, Biometrics and PUFs (Physical Uncloneable Functions). In general, his research interests are in Cryptography, Information Theory and Quantum Information Processing.
