Dr.ir. Asker M. Bazen was born in The Netherlands in 1973. He received his M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Twente in 1998 for his research on high-resolution parametric radar processing, which he continued for one more year at Thomson-CSF Signaal. In the summer of 2002, he finished his Ph.D. thesis at the chair of Signals and Systems of the University of Twente on various topics in fingerprint recognition. Next, he worked on a smart gun that authenticates its user using grip-pattern recognition. In 2003, he received an Innovation Research grant from NWO (Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research) to continue his research on fingerprint recognition for three more years at the University of Twente. His research interests include biometrics, signal and image processing and pattern recognition.
