De Werkgemeenschap voor Informatie- en Communicatietheorie in de Benelux, and the IEEE Benelux Chapter on Digital Signal Processing
jointly organize an introduction to
Friday, January 12, 2001

Blauwe Zaal, Eindhoven
The economies of our world more and more depend on creative works and intellectual property. Meanwhile new developments such as the increasing Internet bandwidth, advanced compression techniques and growing data storage capacity make illegal distribution of creative content possible. This threatens the current business model for entertainment content. To counter widespread piracy, the PC and consumer electronic products are rapidly migrating from open platforms to protected systems using cryptography, electronic watermarking and techniques for personalised storage of content. The challenge is to prevent illegal practices while maintaining ease of use, flexibility in choosing the platform and environment to enjoy film and music, and allowing the user to create and distribute his own audio and video recordings. Trustworthy solutions are an essential prerequisite for on-line e-commerce of entertainment content. This midwinter meeting offers an introduction to this exciting new research area by keynote speakers in the field. The presentations will be given in English. More information can be found at
